Professor Rhona Schuz is a world expert on international child abduction and has written one of the leading books on this topic. She represented the International Society of Family Law at the Sixth and Seventh Special Commissions of the Hague Conference on Private International Law on the Practical Operation of the 1980 Child Abduction Convention and the 1996 Child Protection Convention (2011-2012 and 2017).

In 2023, Professor Schuz was awarded a research grant from the Israeli Science Fund for a project on the topic:- Socio-Legal Rethinking of the Hague Child Abduction Convention: Israel as a case study.

Prof. Schuz participated in the international “Rewriting Children’s Rights Judgments” project (2015-2017) and is an active member of the International Association of Child Law Research. She has written about various aspects of children’s rights: including the child’s participation rights; the child’s right to be brought up by his biological parents and the misuse of children’s rights discourse in the political arena. She was appointed by the Minister of Justice as a member of the Shifman Committee on the Reform of Child Support in Israel (2006-2012).

Professor Schuz has also researched topics in private international law: including  applicable law rules in relation to tort and matrimonial property; the closest connection approach in Israeli caselaw and the use and interpretation of personal connecting factors in Israeli law.

Before joining the College for Science and Law in 2001, Professor Schuz was a lecturer in law at Nottingham University, the London School of Economics and Bar Ilan University. In 2014 she was a visiting Professor at the University of Vienna.
